Homemade Raspberry macarons with dark chocolate ganache

Jamie Oliver’s Strawberry Orchata

Jamie Olivers Strawberry orchata

The Cinnamon orchata I made back in November was surprisingly good and delicious, so I was looking forward to trying the fruit version of the drink; Strawberry orchata. And tonight was the night to try it out.

I wasn’t blown away unfortunately. It was still alright but just not amazing. Perhaps it was because I used frozen strawberries instead of fresh. The taste just wasn’t as fresh and fruity as I had hoped. Actually it was a bit bland.  In the summer I might try it again with fresh strawberries.

On a side note, I realized that I have been spelling the drink with an ‘O’ and have noticed that it is also spelled with an ‘H’…so don’t really know if its ‘Orchata’ or ‘Horchata’, does anyone know the difference?

Ingredients;

75 g long-grain rice

Half a liter of whole milk

Half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon

2 tbsp. of light brown sugar

1 or 2 cinnamon sticks

8 strawberries

Ice cubes

Method:

Prepare the rice according to the package instructions, then strain and run under cold water so it cools down quickly. Put the cooled rice into a blender with the milk, ground cinnamon, and sugar. Blend until smooth.

Strain rice mixture into a pitcher with lots of  ice. Discard the rice from the sieve. Snap cinnamon sticks in half and place into pitcher with the orchata. Pour into glasses.

Strawberry horchata
