Southern style pulled pork – a Jamie Oliver recipe

Ok, so I said from the beginning of my Jamie Oliver project, that I didn’t have a deadline for when I would have cooked and tried all of the recipes in Jamie Oliver’s America cookbook. But at this rate I will be a very very old lady before I’m done. So I am hereby trying to kick-start the project once again. I love a good pulled pork sandwich, and this recipe is one of the reasons that I wanted to do this project in the first place. So when I found some shoulder of pork at the supermarket, I decided that it was time to continue the project. It’s not a very difficult recipe, it’s just very time consuming, so...

Chili con Jamie – Jamie Oliver’s chili con carne

Another recipe is now done in me Jamie Oliver domestic project. I really love this project. Its quite a long process but its great its also great motivation. And the book, Jamie’s America, has so many great recipes, so it’s just a joy to work through. Last night I cooked Chili con Jamie as its called. The recipe says to use beef brisket instead of minced beef. The meat just melts and falls a apart when you let the dish simmer for a few hours. The dish did turn out quite bitter, which we didn’t really like. It must have been the coffee, so next time I’ll use a bit less, or not as strong coffee. And perhaps use more...

Jamie Oliver’s Strawberry Orchata

The Cinnamon orchata I made back in November was surprisingly good and delicious, so I was looking forward to trying the fruit version of the drink; Strawberry orchata. And tonight was the night to try it out. I wasn’t blown away unfortunately. It was still alright but just not amazing. Perhaps it was because I used frozen strawberries instead of fresh. The taste just wasn’t as fresh and fruity as I had hoped. Actually it was a bit bland.  In the summer I might try it again with fresh strawberries. On a side note, I realized that I have been spelling the drink with an ‘O’ and have noticed that it is also spelled with an ‘H’…so don’t really know...

Jamie Oliver’s date shake

My Jamie Oliver domestic project continues. This time with a lovely and sweet afternoon shake. Very simple, few ingredients and yet so so tasty. Dates are so wonderful, full of flavor and natural sweetness . I sometimes eat them as snacks, but this is the first time I’ve used them in a drink. And I love it, definitely not the last time I’ve made it. I think that it would work well served in a small glass for brunch. Ingredients;

Jamie Oliver’s candied bacon green salad

So I figured that it was about time to continue my journey through Jamie Oliver’s America cookbook. On tonight’s menu was candied bacon green salad.  I was a bit iffy about the idea of sweetening bacon. I love bacon, but salty bacon, not sweet and sticky. And I’ll be honest; I might have burned the bacon…slightly, just slightly. So therefore I cannot really tell you if sweet bacon works – for me at least. But the rest if the dish is very tasty, fresh and just yummy. I usually don’t like fruit in my salad, but it works very well in this dish. It’s a lovely contrast to the crispy croutons. The dressing is nice and tangy, something I really...

Jamie Oliver’s comforting turkey stew with homemade papardelle dumplings

This really has turned into project day. We had turkey stew for dinner tonight – another Jamie Oliver recipe from his ‘Jamie’s America’ cookbook. I wanted to make it because it looked really good in the book, but I was also a bit weary because it has papardelle dumplings and I have never made pasta before. But turns out  it’s not that difficult. The stew turned out great, very tasty. The sauce didn’t turn out as thick as I would have liked but I’ll fix that next time. The dumplings did however turn how a bit too thick, but cooked perfectly however. I think that the thing that sets this turkey stew apart from a regular stew is the fresh...

Jamie Oliver’s Cinnamon Orchata

My second recipe for my Jamie Oliver domestic project is cinnamon orchata. I had never tried or heard of the drink before I saw it in the book. But it sounded delicious and exactly like something I would like. And I was right. It’s a bit like Christmas in a cup, a lot like the rice porridge, risengrød, we eat around Christmas time in Denmark. Lovely and very easy to make. I did a little research and can tell you that it’s a actually the name of several kinds of traditional beverages served in Spain, Latin America and the US, made of ground almonds, sesame seeds, rice, barley or tigernuts. In some countries the drink is usually tan and “milky”,...

Jamie Oliver Green Chili

Here we go. My Jamie Oliver project has begun. I arrive home from work at around 6 PM if I need to go shopping for dinner first. So I had to find a somewhat quick recipe for today. The choice was green chili. I was excited to try it out because it had a few ingredients I don’t use very often; mint leaves and dried sage. I really like chili but just not too much, I still need to be able to actually taste to food. And this dish turned out quite hot, but I liked it a lot. It was borderline too hot, but maybe that’s just me. Sillas can eat much hotter food than I can so I...

My domestic Jamie Oliver project

I have a new domestic project – I’ve decided to cook my way through one of Jamie Oliver’s cookbooks.  I have quite a few cookbooks but have not been using them as much as I’d like. So I decided to pick a book and cook as many recipes from it as possible. The book of choice is Jamie Oliver’s Jamie’s America. I chose it for a few reasons; one, Jamie Oliver is one of my favorite chefs and I have watched his programs since the late 90’s. I love his style and the dishes he creates. His dishes are rustic and full of fresh ingredients and heavily influenced by the Italian kitchen – all things that I like. After living...
